For Young Women

Under His Wings started as a testimony to God’s love for all who were created in His image. In Genesis 1:27, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” This verse establishes that humans possess inherent dignity, value, and a unique relationship with God.

 

As a physician in women’s health, I was seeing in all ages the results of trauma, pain, and low self-worth. This affects a person’s ability to evaluate pain and use learned responses to help themselves. In the teenage years, we are discovering who we are, and learned responses are absorbed. God was showing me how much He loves teenage girls and how their pain called out to Him. He wants to help them evaluate situations and make wise decisions in all areas of their lives—family, spiritual, personal, professional, and community.

How successful are we? I think a girl who finished our program said it best:

“I see myself differently than the girl who arrived. You have taught me how to see my worth through the eyes of God and to heal because I’m worth it.”

The future of UHW is so much larger than I had ever thought or could have imagined. This miracle happened because God allowed us to participate in His work. The staff has grown in numbers, bringing in new thoughts, talents, and gifts. But we are united in following God’s plan for Under His Wings and feeling God’s joy in the work He provides for our needs and the needs of the girls. We see the promise in Ephesians 3:20:
